Lessons Learned Become Financial Life Skills
Volunteer Coach

When I retired after 35 years in the insurance industry, I wanted to give back and do something meaningful with my time. I had always handled the finances for my family of 5 and felt I had the skills and knowledge necessary to be an effective coach. In the last four years, I have coached approximately 20 people. It is very gratifying to watch people learn and take control of their financial lives using the skills we work on and the lessons they’ve learned through Save First.

Put Yourself in Control of Your Money
Volunteer Coach

I am a firm believer that anyone can manage a budget! Besides budgeting, I also work with you on using credit wisely and saving for the unexpected. Budgeting, like any new habit, is challenging in the beginning. As a financial coach, I partner with clients through this process. The long-term benefit for clients is empowerment! Knowing and choosing where your money is spent puts you in control.

Catholic Charities Volunteer of the Year
Volunteer Coach

I have been a volunteer financial coach since 2013, working with over 20 clients. I’ve seen them grow, feel more confident about managing their money, succeed in meeting their financial goals, and feel more empowered. Additionally, as an essential part of the program--in the case of couples--communications about finances (and I assume other subjects) have also improved.

Get Back on the Road to Financial Success
Volunteer Coach

I enjoy being involved with Save First, utilizing my financial background and skills to share knowledge with my clients. I get to know their stories and figure out how I can help them reach their goals so they can get back on the road to financial success. We meet regularly to review their budgets and let them know I’m here to assist and encourage them. When they succeed, we succeed.

A Career in Finances Prepared Me for Coaching
Volunteer Coach

For the past 20 years, I have worked as a Senior Financial Analyst for the City of Portland and Finance Director for the Mt. Hood Cable Regulatory (MHCRC). Now that I’m retired, I volunteer as a Board Member of the Mental Health and Addiction Association of Oregon and with Save First as a financial coach and mentor--something I’ve been doing since 2013.
